film extrusion

Technical films are not produced according to a standard scheme. Material, film thickness, width, layer structure and further processing They must match each other. With the foil extrusion process, we develop and manufacture customized solutions – from the initial idea to the serial production implementation.

Process in detail

What is film extrusion possible makes

In the film extrusion process, the plastic is melted, homogenized, and shaped into a continuous film strip through a flat die. The process control allows for Film thickness, width and material structure tailor it specifically to the respective application.

Whether single-layer monofilmed or functional multi-layer film: What properties the film must fulfill later is crucial. Mechanical strength, processability, surface quality or the connection with other materials can already be taken into account during design.

Monofolien

A material with a clearly defined function

Monofolies consist of a material layer and offer a clear, economical solution for applications with strict requirements. The material selection and process management are coordinated in such a way that the film can be manufactured reliably and reproducibly.

Multilayer films

Multiple properties in one foil

If a single material layer does not meet all requirements, multi-layer films can combine different functions. The individual layers each perform defined tasks. Which combination is sensible depends on the materials, the layer structure, processing, and subsequent use.

Precise film thickness

Different film thicknesses can be implemented in the range of 0.100 to 5 mm. The appropriate thickness is not considered in isolation but evaluated in conjunction with material, function, further processing, and the required stability. This results in a film that not only fits the data sheet but also reliably functions in the later process.

Flexible film width

With possible film widths ranging from 350 to 1,100 mm, production can be adapted to different component and further processing concepts. The width is considered in conjunction with the desired format, the use of the roll material, and the intended packaging.

Corona pre-treatment and inline coating

The surfaces must be suitable for subsequent processing steps. A corona pretreatment can specifically alter the surface properties of the film and thereby support further processing.

In inline lamination, the film is directly bonded to another material layer during the ongoing process. This can reduce additional steps and enables a coordinated film build. Whether pre-treatment or lamination is advisable is determined based on the material, adhesion, and subsequent use.

Inline assembly

Further processing directly in the process

The film web can be prepared inline for further use. This allows process steps to be coordinated with each other and the film to be specifically adapted to the requirements of the subsequent processing.

Which form of packaging is appropriate depends on the product, the desired format, and the subsequent handling. Therefore, we do not only consider the finished roll packaging, but the entire process up to its use.

Material and film structure

The appropriate material solution results from the purpose of the film. Among other things, we take into account the desired film thickness, the layer structure, the surface requirements, and the planned further processing.

Depending on the requirement, different technical plastics, monofilms, or multilayer structures can be considered. What matters is not the maximum choice, but the combination that is technically, economically, and durably suitable for your application.

Special solutions

When a standard film is not sufficient, the actual development work begins. Together, we examine the material, thickness, width, layer structure, and further processing. This results in customized technical films that are tailored to specific requirements.

Solutions using secondary raw materials can also be considered within the framework of technical possibilities. After all, cycles begin already during development: with the question of which materials can be used, processed, and subsequently reused in a meaningful way.

Fields of application

Where technical films are used their strengths play out

Technical films are used everywhere, where defined material properties, reproducible dimensions and reliable processing are guaranteed Depending on the structure of the film and the material, they can be used as roll goods, for cutting, or as part of a pre-assembled solution.

Whether as a standalone foil, as a functional multi-layer solution or as a coated semi-finished product: We always view the film in context with the later product and process.

Why Filzwieser for Film extrusion?

A good film solution does not arise solely at the extrusion plant. It arises through the interaction of the Interaction between material, process, further processing and application. That's where we start.

We ask questions before giving standard answersWhat function must the film perform? What thickness and width are really required? Does it require a multi-layer structure, a corona treatment or an inline coating? And how can the film be safely processed in the next process step?

From the initial idea to the serial production, the paths are short. As your plastic solutions expert We accompany you in a solution-oriented manner and with technical understanding – reliable, direct, and with an eye on the overall system.

FAQ & Background information

Frequently asked questions

What film thicknesses are possible with Filzwieser?

We manufacture technical films with thicknesses from 0.100 to 2.5 mm. The appropriate film thickness for your application depends, among other things, on the material, function, mechanical load, and the intended further processing.

Film widths are possible from 350 to 1,000 mm. The appropriate width is determined together with the desired format, the use as a roll product, and the requirements of the subsequent process.

A monofil membrane consists of a single layer of material and is suitable for applications with a clearly defined function. A multi-layer membrane combines several layers of material. This allows different properties to be combined in one film. Which solution is appropriate depends on the material, application, and further processing.

A Corona pretreatment can be used if the surface is suitable for subsequent processing steps such as Customized printing, coating or embossing Whether it is necessary will be examined depending on the material, the desired adhesion, and the further process.

Information about the application, the desired material or material structure, the film thickness, the film width and the required quantity are helpful. Equally important are information about further processing – for example, for packaging, lamination or surface treatment. If all the data are not yet available, we will discuss the next steps together.
