Conductive Film

Where Electric charges must flow in a controlled manner, The search begins for the appropriate film solution. Conductive films reduce electrostatic charges and thus protect sensitive products and electronic components, ensuring processes are secure. What is crucial is Interaction between polymer, film structure, resistance and subsequent use.

Properties

What are conductive films unique makes

Conductivity does not arise by chance. It is governed by the Selection of the base polymer, the type and quantity of the conductive additives as well as the Film construction targeted adjusted. This allows the film to be adjusted to the requirements of your application – from permanently conductive to antistatic.

Defined surface resistance

The surface resistance determines how electrical charges flow through the film. Conductive designs are possible in the range of 10³ to 10⁶ Ω. Above this range, films are typically designed for antistatic applications. Which setting is appropriate depends on the product, environment, process, and desired protective effect.

Permanent instead of only superficial

The electrical function is permanently embedded in the material. Conductive components are integrated into the polymer and are not merely applied as a coating. This ensures that the effect remains intact even during repeated handling and corresponding mechanical stress.

Adjustable according to requirement

Not every application requires the same resistance range. Conductive films can be specifically adjusted to the desired function – for example, for controlled dissipation, ESD protection, or antistatic properties. What matters is that the film fits the overall system and the required application.

Protection without metal foil

Conductive plastic films combine the electrical function with the advantages of thermoplastic materials. They are flexible or form-stable, can be processed, cut to size and assembled, and enable solutions where a classic metal foil is not the best choice.

Function across the entire film solution

Whether roll stock, cut-to-size or pre-assembled solution: The foil construction is tailored to processing and use. Material, layer structure, thickness, surface finish and electrical properties all interact with each other. This results in no standard foil, but a solution for the specific process.

Product variants

Which conductive film Does it suit you?

Not every polymer is equally suitable for every application. Together, we find the combination of material, film structure and electrical properties that really works.

PP – Polypropylene

Lightweight, economical, and chemical-resistant. Conductive PP films are suitable for applications where low weight, good processability, and a defined electrical function must be combined.

PE – Polyethylene

PE offers a flexible material base for robust film solutions. Depending on its type and structure, the material is suitable for films that must remain mechanically stable during transport, packaging, and processing.

EVA – Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate

EVA combines flexibility with a soft, adaptable material characteristic. Conductive EVA films can be interesting when the film adheres to surfaces or when sensitive components need to be gently protected.

TPU – Thermoplastic polyurethane

TPU stands for elastic and at the same time resistant film solutions. Conductive TPU films are particularly suitable where flexibility, abrasion resistance and long-lasting functionality are required together.

ABS – Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene

ABS offers a combination of stiffness, toughness and good surface quality. Conductive ABS films are suitable for technical applications where the film remains form-stable while at the same time controlling the conduction of electrical charges.

PS – Polystyrene

PS is a rigid and dimensionally stable material base for technical films. Conductive PS films offer an economical solution when form stability, easy processing and a defined electrical function must be combined.

PC – Polycarbonate

When high impact resistance and robust functionality are required, PC offers a powerful base. Conductive PC films are suitable for more demanding applications where mechanical strength and electrical properties are required together.

Special solutions

If standard films are not enough, we keep thinking. Together, we develop technical films that are tailored to your requirements – from the material selection to the pre-assembled solution.

Fields of application

Why Filzwieser for Conductive films?

Conductive films must be able to do more than just achieve a specific resistance value. They must be easy to process, permanently function, and fit into the overall system. Therefore, we consider not only the material, but also the film structure, processing, assembly, and application.

We support you from the initial idea to the serial production – in the selection of PP, PE, EVA, TPU, ABS, PS or PC as well as in the definition of the desired surface resistance. Whether roll stock, cut-to-size or a pre-assembled solution: We are not looking for the fastest standard answer, but the solution that is technically and economically suitable for your project.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between conductive and antistatic films?

Conductive films have a lower surface resistance and can selectively conduct electrical charges. In the range of 10³ to 10⁶ Ω, they are classified as electrically conductive. Above this range, antistatic versions are available that control electrostatic charges. Which variant is required depends on the application, standard, and protection concept.

Yes. In permanently conductive films, the electrical function is anchored in the material or in the film structure. It is not based on a coating that can be removed during processing or use. The specific long-term stability still depends on the polymer, the additives, the film structure, and the operating conditions.

Yes. The desired resistance range can be adjusted via Polymers, conductive additives, whose concentration and the structure of the films influence. In addition, mechanical, optical and processing requirements must be taken into account. We will jointly assess what is the most appropriate value for your application.

Depending on the requirements, PP, PE, EVA, TPU, ABS, PS and PC are used as the polymer base. The materials differ in terms of flexibility, rigidity, impact resistance, temperature resistance, surface quality and chemical resistance, among other things. Therefore, the selection is always made based on the specific application.

Yes. Multilayer films can connect various functions together.. For example, a conductive layer, a flexible or mechanically loadable layer, and a protective outer layer can be combined. The appropriate configuration depends on the desired electrical function, processing, and subsequent use.

Both are possible. Depending on the requirements, conductive films can be supplied as rolls, in a defined cut size, or as a pre-assembled solution. We adapt the format, structure, and processing to your process – from the initial idea to the serial production.
