Plastic reels for automated electronics manufacturing

Reels are the Optimal packaging for sensitive and small-format electronic components

Our plastic reels protect small-format and sensitive SMD components and enable their reliable deployment for automated SMT assembly processes.

For over 30 years, Filzwieser has been providing solutions for various requirements in the electronics industry. A large portion of our plastic reels is made from post-consumer recycled materials. This reduces the use of primary raw materials – while maintaining the same functionality in the packaging and feeding process. Depending on the requirement, insulating, antistatic, or electrically or conductive versions are available.

We deliver solutions that work in automated manufacturing processes, have proven themselves time and again, and have made us a reliable partner for renowned electronics component manufacturers.

Our standard plastic reels for SMD components

Filzwieser’s standard plastic reels for SMD components are available in single-, double- and triple-section versions with outer diameters ranging from 180 to 560 mm. They are designed for applications according to relevant specifications such as IEC 60286-3 and EIAJ specifications. The reels are standardly antistatic (< 10¹¹ Ω) and, if required, also available in electrically conductive version (< 10⁶ Ω).

Minimum order quantity: one pallet

Our Standard plastic reels do they not fit?

Not every application can be solved with a standard reel. Perhaps you need a different width, a special material design, certain electrical properties, or a variant that better suits your logistics and assembly process.

Then let’s look together at what is technically feasible. With our own toolmaking, injection molding expertise, and experience in mass production, we can customize plastic reels or develop customized solutions – for example, with varying widths or special material specifications.

Plastic reels for powerful Processes

  • Simple: The reels can be easily mounted and thus support efficient logistics processes.
  • Variable: Reels and cores can be used in various combinations. This allows different reel widths to be realized.
  • Individually: If a standard design is not sufficient, we develop customized solutions for your application.
  • Sustainable: Depending on the design, we manufacture the reels from suitable secondary raw materials.
  • Proven: Used in automated SMD/SMT assembly processes for many years.
  • From one hand: Development, toolmaking and injection molding under one roof.

Frequently asked questions about Filzwieser reels

We would be happy to answer all your questions personally. The answers to the most frequently asked questions have already been listed for you here in advance.

What are plastic reels used for?

Plastic reels are used in electronics manufacturing to safely hold and transport small and sensitive components and to provide them for assembly machines. Especially for SMD components in SMT assembly processes, they ensure that the components can be handled in an organized, protected and reliable manner. Spools can also be used in other applications, such as packaging punch parts or feeding labels – wherever products need to be supplied in a consistent and automated manner.

With two-part and three-part reels, rounds and cores can be used in various combinations. This allows different reel widths to be realized and logistics processes to be made more flexible.

One-piece reels are supplied as pre-assembled units. Two-piece reels come as round halves that can be combined to create individual reel widths. Three-piece reels are supplied separately as rounds and cores and assembled on-site. Upon request, we also mount and label the reels with customer-specific labels.

The specific storage and processing conditions depend on the material and design. Please refer to the product-specific information for details.

Storage is recommended in a carton at -30 °C to +40 °C, and processing at +15 °C to +35 °C. Antistatic versions are shelf-stable for 6 months, non-conductive versions for 12 months. Direct sunlight and UV light should be avoided during storage.
